Equivalent Fractions

Addition (same denominator)
\dfrac{a}{c} + \dfrac{b}{c} = \dfrac{a + b}{c}
Addition (different denominator)
\dfrac{a}{b} + \dfrac{c}{d} = \dfrac{ad + bc}{bd}
Subtraction
\dfrac{a}{b} - \dfrac{c}{d} = \dfrac{ad - bc}{bd}
Mixed to Improper
a\dfrac{b}{c} = \dfrac{ac + b}{c}
Decimal to Fraction
0.ab = \dfrac{ab}{100}
Fraction to Decimal
\dfrac{a}{b} = a \div b
Worked Examples
1Using: Addition of Fractions
Add 2/5 + 3/10.
Step 1: LCM of 5 and 10 = 10.
Step 2: 2/5 = 4/10.
Step 3: 4/10 + 3/10 = 7/10.
Answer: 7/10
2Using: Mixed to Improper
Convert 3 1/4 to an improper fraction.
Step 1: = (3 x 4 + 1) / 4
Step 2: = 13/4.
Answer: 13/4
