Playing with Constructions — Geometry You Create Yourself

Looking for a class 6 math worksheet or maths worksheet for class 6 with answers? This comprehensive resource covers everything you need. This chapter is unique because you actually draw things. With just a compass and a straight edge, you can create perfect circles, copy angles, bisect line segments, and construct beautiful geometric designs.

The new NCERT Ganita Prakash textbook makes constructions feel like art. You start with basic compass skills, progress to constructing squares and equilateral triangles inscribed in circles, and end by creating rosette patterns and Rangoli-like designs.

This Playing with Constructions Class 6 worksheet has 60 questions covering every construction skill in the chapter.

Beyond this worksheet, SparkEd offers interactive online practice for Constructions with step-by-step solutions and progress tracking.

What Does This Worksheet Cover?

Aligned with NCERT Ganita Prakash Chapter 8 — Playing with Constructions:

- Drawing circles — with given radius and through given points
- Constructing line segments — of given length, copying a segment
- Constructing angles — using compass (60, 90, 120 degrees)
- Inscribed squares and triangles — inside circles
- Perpendicular bisector — of a line segment
- Angle bisector — splitting an angle in half
- Artistic designs — rosettes, flower patterns, and Rangoli using compass

| Level | Focus | Count |
|-------|-------|-------|
| Level 1 | Draw circles, copy segments, construct basic angles | 20 |
| Level 2 | Perpendicular bisector, inscribed shapes, angle bisector | 20 |
| Level 3 | Complex designs, multi-step constructions, reasoning about constructions | 20 |

Sample Questions

Level 1 — Warm Up

  1. Draw a circle with radius 44 cm. Mark the centre as O and any point on the circle as A. What is the length OA?
  2. Draw a line segment AB of length 6.56.5 cm. Construct another segment CD of the same length using only a compass and ruler.
  3. Using a compass, construct an angle of 60°60\degree.

Level 2 — Build Confidence

  1. Draw a line segment PQ = 88 cm. Construct the perpendicular bisector of PQ. Mark the midpoint M.
  2. Construct an equilateral triangle inscribed in a circle of radius 33 cm.
  3. Draw an angle of 90°90\degree using compass construction (hint: first construct 60°60\degree, then bisect 60°60\degree to get 30°30\degree, then add 60°+30°60\degree + 30\degree).

Level 3 — Push Yourself

  1. Construct a square inscribed in a circle of radius 44 cm. Explain why all four sides are equal.
  2. Create a 6-petal rosette pattern: draw a circle, then use the same radius to mark 6 equally spaced points on the circle, and draw arcs connecting them.
  3. Why does the perpendicular bisector of a chord of a circle always pass through the centre? Explain with a construction.

Tips for Construction Problems

Tips for Construction Problems

1. Keep your compass tight. If the compass slips, your circle radius changes and the whole construction goes wrong. Tighten the screw and practice drawing smooth arcs.

2. Always use a sharp pencil. Thick pencil lines make constructions inaccurate. Use an HB pencil sharpened to a fine point.

3. Do not erase construction arcs. In exams, the arcs and marks you make are part of the answer. They show the examiner how you did the construction.

4. For inscribed shapes, the circle comes first. Draw the circle, then use compass arcs to mark vertices on the circle. For an equilateral triangle, the compass opening equals the radius.

5. Check your construction by measuring. After constructing a perpendicular bisector, verify that both halves are equal. After bisecting an angle, measure both halves with a protractor. This catches errors.
