What Makes Class 2 Maths Different from Class 1
In Class 1, children learned to count, recognise shapes, and do basic addition and subtraction up to 20. Class 2 raises the bar significantly. Numbers jump to 999, multiplication and division appear for the first time, and fractions make an early entrance.

Expanded form (e.g., 435 = 400 + 30 + 5) is a key concept at this stage.
Addition of 3-Digit Numbers
Addition gets more challenging with carrying (regrouping). Children add two-digit and three-digit numbers, first without carrying and then with it. Word problems appear more frequently, asking children to apply addition to real-life situations like shopping or measuring.
Subtraction of 3-Digit Numbers
Subtraction with borrowing is one of the trickiest skills in Class 2. Children must understand that they can borrow from the tens or hundreds column when the top digit is smaller. Worksheets build this step by step, starting with no borrowing and gradually introducing single and double borrowing.
Multiplication Introduction
Multiplication is introduced as repeated addition. If you have 3 groups of 4 apples, that is 4 + 4 + 4 = 12, or 3 times 4. Children learn times tables for 2, 3, 4, and 5. Worksheets include skip counting, array pictures, and simple multiplication sentences.
Division Introduction

Class 2 moves from non-standard to standard units. Children measure length in centimetres and metres, weight in grams and kilograms, and capacity in millilitres and litres. Worksheets include measuring with a ruler, reading weighing scales, and simple conversion between units.

Children learn to read analogue clocks to the hour and half-hour. They also understand duration: if a cartoon starts at 4 o'clock and lasts 30 minutes, when does it end? Worksheets show clock faces for reading and drawing hands.

Children move from pictographs to tally charts, bar graphs, and simple tables. They learn to collect data, organise it, and answer questions from graphs. This builds early analytical skills.
How to Get the Most from Class 2 Worksheets
1. Practise carrying and borrowing with physical bundles. Use sticks or straws grouped in tens. When subtracting, physically unbundle a ten to show where the extra ones come from.
2. Drill times tables in short bursts. Five minutes of times table practice every day is far more effective than a weekend cramming session. Use worksheets to keep it structured.
3. Connect money worksheets to real life. Give your child a pretend shop at home. Let them be the shopkeeper and make change. This makes the worksheet problems feel meaningful.
