Why Constructions Matter
Looking for a class 6 math worksheet or maths worksheet for class 6 with answers? This comprehensive resource covers everything you need. Practical geometry is maths you can touch. Instead of just calculating, you pick up a compass and ruler and actually draw precise geometric figures. This builds a kind of understanding that formulas alone cannot.
When you construct a perpendicular bisector, you *see* why every point on it is equidistant from the two endpoints. When you bisect an angle, you understand symmetry in a hands-on way.
In exams, construction questions carry good marks and are often easier than calculation questions if you have practised. This Practical Geometry Class 6 worksheet prepares you with 60 questions covering every construction in the NCERT syllabus.
Beyond this worksheet, SparkEd offers interactive online practice for Practical Geometry with step-by-step solutions and progress tracking — perfect for daily revision.
What Does This Worksheet Cover?
Aligned with the NCERT Class 6 Practical Geometry chapter:
- Drawing a line segment of a given length using ruler and compass
- Constructing a copy of a given line segment
- Perpendicular to a line through a point on it and through a point not on it
- Perpendicular bisector of a line segment
- Constructing angles — 30, 45, 60, 90, 120 degrees using compass
- Bisecting an angle
- Constructing angles using a protractor
- Identifying geometric tools and their uses
| Level | Focus | Count |
|-------|-------|-------|
| Level 1 | Tool identification, basic line segment and angle constructions | 20 |
| Level 2 | Perpendiculars, bisectors, specific angle constructions | 20 |
| Level 3 | Combination constructions, reasoning about steps, exam-style | 20 |
Sample Questions
Level 1 — Warm Up
- Draw a line segment PQ of length 6.3 cm using a ruler and compass.
- Using a protractor, construct an angle of 75 degrees.
- Name the geometric tool used to draw a circle.
Level 2 — Build Confidence
- Draw a line segment AB = 8 cm. Construct its perpendicular bisector using only a compass and straightedge.
- Construct an angle of 60 degrees using a compass. Then bisect it to get 30 degrees.
- Draw a line and a point P on it. Construct a perpendicular to at P.
Level 3 — Push Yourself
- Construct an angle of 45 degrees without using a protractor. (Hint: start with 90, then bisect.)
- Draw a line segment of length 10 cm. Divide it into 4 equal parts using only a compass and ruler.
- Construct an angle of 135 degrees using a compass. Write down each step clearly.
Tips for Perfect Constructions
Tips for Perfect Constructions
1. Keep your compass tight. If the compass slips, your arcs will be wrong and the construction fails. Tighten the screw before starting.2. Use a sharp pencil in the compass. A thick pencil lead creates fuzzy arcs. Sharp lead gives precise intersection points.
3. Do not erase construction arcs. In exams, you must show all arcs and construction lines. They prove you used the correct method. Erasing them can cost marks.
4. Label every point immediately. As soon as you mark a point, label it (A, B, P, Q, etc.). This prevents confusion later.
5. Know your angle building blocks. With a compass, you can directly construct 60 degrees (equilateral triangle arc). From there: bisect to get 30, construct 90 using perpendicular, bisect 90 to get 45, and so on.
