What is the difference between ratio and proportion?

A ratio compares two quantities (e.g., 3:5). A proportion states that two ratios are equal (e.g., 3:5 = 6:10). So proportion is an equation involving two ratios.

What is the unitary method?

The unitary method finds the value of one unit first, then multiplies to find the value of any number of units. For example, if 4 kg of rice costs Rs 200, then 1 kg costs Rs 50, so 7 kg costs 7 x 50 = Rs 350.

How do you check if four numbers are in proportion?

Use cross multiplication. For a:b :: c:d, check if a x d = b x c. If yes, they are in proportion. For example, 2:3 :: 8:12 because 2 x 12 = 24 and 3 x 8 = 24.
