Level 1 — Easy

1. Find the mean of 5,8,12,7,85, 8, 12, 7, 8.
Solution: Sum =40= 40. Mean =40÷5=8= 40 \div 5 = 8.

2. Find the mode of 3,5,3,7,3,83, 5, 3, 7, 3, 8.
Solution: 33 occurs three times, more than any other number. Mode is 33.

3. Find the range of 12,15,8,20,1012, 15, 8, 20, 10.
Solution: Range =208=12= 20 - 8 = 12.

Level 2 — Medium

1. Find the median of 7,12,3,9,15,4,107, 12, 3, 9, 15, 4, 10.
Solution: Arrange in order: 3,4,7,9,10,12,153, 4, 7, 9, 10, 12, 15. There are 77 values. Median is the 44th value, which is 99.

2. A coin is tossed. What is the probability of getting a head?
Solution: Favourable outcomes =1= 1 (head). Total outcomes =2= 2. P(head)=12P(\text{head}) = \dfrac{1}{2}.

3. A bar graph shows daily sales of a shop for five days: 20, 35, 30, 25, 40 items. Find the mean daily sales.
Solution: Sum =150= 150. Mean =150÷5=30= 150 \div 5 = 30 items.

Level 3 — Hard

1. The marks of 1010 students are 45,50,38,60,72,50,65,42,50,5845, 50, 38, 60, 72, 50, 65, 42, 50, 58. Find the mean, median and mode.
Solution: Sum =530= 530. Mean =53= 53. Arranged: 38,42,45,50,50,50,58,60,65,7238, 42, 45, 50, 50, 50, 58, 60, 65, 72. Median is the average of the 55th and 66th values: 50+502=50\dfrac{50 + 50}{2} = 50. Mode is 5050.

2. A die is rolled. What is the probability of getting a number greater than 44?
Solution: Favourable outcomes are 5,65, 6, so 22 outcomes. Total =6= 6. Probability =26=13= \dfrac{2}{6} = \dfrac{1}{3}.

3. In a survey of 4040 families, the number of children per family was recorded: 00 in 55 families, 11 in 1010 families, 22 in 1515 families, 33 in 88 families, 44 in 22 families. Find the mean number of children per family.
Solution: Sum =(0×5)+(1×10)+(2×15)+(3×8)+(4×2)=0+10+30+24+8=72= (0 \times 5) + (1 \times 10) + (2 \times 15) + (3 \times 8) + (4 \times 2) = 0 + 10 + 30 + 24 + 8 = 72. Mean =72÷40=1.8= 72 \div 40 = 1.8 children.
